Artist Talk following 'Body Mapping Lab'

Nathalie Fari and an international team of artists investigate the relationship between the body and the city in the digital age. After a 10-day residency program at the controversial Teufelsberg the artists and researchers show their results in a final presentation. The audiences are invited to discuss with the participants, invited artists and researchers after the site specific performance.

The principles of Embodiment are used in different areas, to either broaden and deepen the bodily perception or to change certain group constellations. The Embodiment allows us to identify the importance of human agency, whether on a physical level or in the formation of a social environment. Yet how can the Embodiment be enliven through the perspective of a place? How can the body in the literal sense «incorporate» a place or «inscribe» itself in it? And which body techniques, research methods or performative means are available to us to generate such site specific experiences? After the performative expedition, the audience have the chance to talk with the artists about the site specific performance and the method of 'Body Mapping Lab’

Free admission including free entrance to the discussion directly through Theater Scoutings! Meeting point: In front of the entrance to Teufelsberg.

About the venue

Teufelsberg

Without a doubt, the Teufelsberg (Devil Mountain) has become a contested magnet for Berlin’s recent tourism hype. The abandoned radar station, the unique view from the highest place in Berlin and the traces of a whole generation of street artists are but a few of the reasons for this attraction. At the Teufelsberg alternative Berlin seems even more alternative and has kept its occult side. However, most visitors are unaware of the singular history of the place. Not only, has the Teufelsberg been a radar station in Cold War, it is also a result from WWII as it mainly consists of debris from the bombing of Berlin. While the mountain after the fall of the wall saw a row of failed and unfinished development initiatives, it also became a place for experiments in alternative living practices. Not just the tourists, but also all kinds of artists are looking for old and new utopias.

About the Site Specific Performance

Body Mapping Lab

Nathalie Fari has invited the German urban researcher Anja Schwanhäußer, the Finish performer Minja Mertanen, and the Brazilian choreographer Petterson Costa to explore as one team the various approaches of Embodiment at Teufelsberg. With artists and researchers coming from various backgrounds and disciplines, she wants to investigate how can we generate a lived, authentic and immediate experience that enhances our perception and awareness of not only the body, but also of the environment.
