Artist Talk 'Epiclogue'
In their visually spectacular dance performance “Epiclogue,” the Norwegian-Danish duo Kjøteren og Terrieren explores the encounter between different bodies, as well as the challenge and questioning of social norms.
- 1Epiclogue explores what it takes, or perhaps costs, to take up the space that others are granted.
- 2 Johanna Hasse, Regisseurin, Dramaturgin
In ‘Epiclogue,’ dancers Jonathan Ibsen and Bjørk-Mynte Paulse claim space for the queer body—strong, visible, and dominant. The performance asks what it means—or costs—to claim space that is taken for granted by others. From the perspectives of a trans woman of color and a white gay man, they question the world in which they live and place questions about gender, sexuality, and identity within a broader context. By rejecting the role of the vulnerable, Køteren og Terrieren create a speculative reality in which dominant norms no longer exist. They seek possibilities in the tension between what is and what could have been. In ‘Epiclogue,’ intimate encounters emerge in which bodies find courage and resolve through love, care, and trust in one another. In the post-performance discussion, the audience can delve deeper into these themes together with the artists.

About the venue
Ballhaus Ost Prenzlauer Berg
BALLHAUS OST is a venue for independent theater, performance, and dance that has been in operation since 2006. Located at Pappelallee 15 in Prenzlauer Berg, the venue serves as a home for established groups and artists from the independent scene (such as the puppet theater troupe “Das Helmi”) while also providing a space for lesser-known participants in Berlin’s vibrant independent theater scene to present their work. The Ballhaus is thus a meeting place for experimental and daring theater artists and a curious audience—a dynamic space for the passionate exploration of contemporary realities.
About the piece
