Artist Talk to 'Dream States'

Dream States is a play on images, with and without images, a return to the subtle flow of imagination. It is a dream continuously forming itself between you and me. Choreographer Anna Nowicka and artistic team invite the audience to discuss after the performance.

After the show, the audience is invited to discuss dreaming, and its relation to everyday life, to theater and creativity. We are curious about questions of imagination, imagery, and intuition, and the role their play in shaping reality. We are interested in how the piece can prompt reflection about time, giving and taking time, expectations, taking action and dance.

You can now reserve tickets (8€) including free admission to the artist talk directly through Theater Scoutings! (up to 1 day before the performance)
Just send an email with the desired number of tickets to reservierung(at)theaterscoutings-berlin.de.

You are also certainly welcome to simply come by on the day of the performance, but we are unable to guarantee that tickets will be available.

Schedule:

7:00 pm – Performance
after the show - Discussion

About the Venue:

Dock 11

The factory level of Dock 11 in Kastanienallee in Prenzlauer Berg is a rehearsals room, teaching studio and dance stage in one. The stage programme has interdisciplinary supplements such as theatre, performance, literature, music, visual art, film and club art – however the main focal point of every performance is on purely dance elements. Together with its other premises in EDEN***** in Berlin-Pankow, Dock 11 has established itself as an important part of the Berlin dance scene. The unique combination of teaching, rehearsal and stage generates an exciting change of perspectives in both the artists and pupils, as well as among the audience.  (source: visitberlin.de)

About the piece:

Dream States

As you focus your attention on the words you are reading, you are slowly beginning to relax. Your body is getting warmer and heavier. You feel your feet resting on the floor, your arms resting on your legs, your torso resting on your pelvis, your head resting on your neck. The weight of your whole, relaxed body is releasing into the ground. All what obstructs you, all what distracts you, all that bothers you is exiting your body and returning into the ground. With every word you read, you go deeper. You go deeper and deeper. And deeper. You release into the elusive world of flittering images that emerge in front of your eyes. With your eyes open, you begin to dream.

About the Choreographer:

Anna Nowicka

Anna Nowicka is a choreographer and performer. In recent years, expanding on her long term interest in the work on dreams, imagination and physical actions, she started developing tools to be applied to artistic creation. Her focus lies on questions of imagination and creativity, and the potential of images to expand the body into the state of continuous becoming. Since 2011 Anna's research has been recognized: she was rewarded the DAAD Prize, followed by the choreographic scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and Tanzstipendium from the city of Berlin. Her performance: “fire is raging in your hair” won the 100GRAD Festival in HAU, Berlin, and her solo: “the truth is just a plain picture. said bob.” was selected for the Polish Dance Platform. Currently, Anna is doing her PhD at the Polish Film School / Acting Department in Łódź, and is a practitioner at the School of Images of dr Catherine Shainberg, also expanding her research through intense dreamwork with Bonnie Buckner. She divides her life between Berlin and Poland.
